ABOUT US

Welcome to the African-American Firefighter Paramedic League! We are a dynamic organization made up of retired and active black firefighter paramedics from the esteemed Chicago Fire Department. Founded by Jim Winbush and Les Outerbridge, on October 1, 1967, our mission has been to actively recruit, retain, and promote black firefighters and lieutenants within the department.

 

At the African-American Firefighter Paramedic League, we are proud to represent a community of dedicated professionals who have served and continue to serve our city with utmost courage, skill, and commitment. With a rich history that spans over five decades, we have been instrumental in fostering diversity and inclusion within the firefighting and paramedic profession.

 

Our organization is a platform for camaraderie, support, and empowerment. We provide a network for black firefighter paramedics to connect, share experiences, and mentor aspiring professionals. By fostering a strong sense of unity, we aim to amplify the voices of our members and advocate for their professional growth and advancement.

 

Through our collective efforts, we strive to create an environment that celebrates the achievements and contributions of African-American firefighter paramedics. We actively engage in initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Chicago Fire Department and the broader firefighting community.
